Prof. Grace Bantebya Kyomuhendo

Grace Bantebya-Kyomuhendo is a Professor of Women and Gender Studies; and advocate for gender equality, social transformation and respect for women’s rights. She is a distinguished social anthropologist with a wealth of experience in gender/ feminist and social norms research. Prof. Bantebya is the Principal Investigator (PI) on the “Whole University Approach: Kicking Sexual Harassment out of Higher Education Institutions in Uganda” (KISH Project). Grace is also a PI of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Growth Opportunities for Women (GrOW) project: “From Promises to Actions: Shifting Gender Norms and Public Perceptions about Unpaid Care Work in Workplaces and Families in Uganda.” She is also a Co PI of the Eastern African Social and Gender Norms Learning Collaborative (EALC)Network hosted by Makerere University, School of Women and Gender Studies and CARE International Uganda. Prof. Bantebya is a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s one hindered (100) eminent member Committee for investigating Sexual Harassment (SH) at Makerere University. She has successfully chaired a number of SH allegations against staff to their conclusion. Prof. Bantebya is one of the International Sexual Exploitation and abuse (SEA) investigator under CARE international Uganda office. She is Social Anthropologist with a wealth of experience in gender feminist research.
Prof. Kyomuhendos other research projects include “Transforming the Lives of Girls and Young women in Uganda, Ethiopia, Viet Nam and Nepal; Strengthening Linkages Between Poverty Reduction Strategies and Child Protection Initiatives by both projects commissioned by the Overseas Development Institute (United Kingdom); Shame, Social Exclusion and the Effectiveness of Anti-poverty Programmes supported by ESRC and “Does ‘shame-proofing’ anti-poverty programmes improve their effectiveness: Theory of change and impact policy evaluation in cross-national settings, and the recent one Prevention of Sexual Harassment in Higher Education Institutions in Uganda.
